C/2023 H2 (Lemmon) 2023-Nov-01 Dan Bartlett

Extensive data usage deserves an explanation.

Five images and their inverted color counterparts each showing comet C/2023 H2 Lemmon imaged for around an hour, just prior to evening comet-set. Grouping the comet in 20 minute integration time seem to be the sweet spot to prevent blurring of the faint tail structure and keeping the SNR respectable. This comet has brightened up to better than 8th magnitude (COBS website) and is closing quickly ( Might have to comet track shortly) on the earth with earth's MOID on November 10th. New Animation:
From 118 x 30 second exposures of comet C/2023 H2 Lemmon taken on the evening of November 1, 2023. Originally I integrated all 118 exposures with the resulting stack quite the blurry mess. Restacking into groups of 15 minutes showed the comet's tail to be quite active, changing in appearance over the hour of imaging time. Here I animated 20 minute groups of 30 second exposures, removing the stars and centering on one time period for the evening. First five normal frames followed by 5 inverted color frames, with each frame static at half a seconds or other words 2 FPS. The integration consisting of stars and the comet looses much of the fine cometary tail structure however this may be limited to my inability in processing.
